The History of Redworth Hall

Redworth Hall, located in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, has a rich and intriguing background rooted in the seventeenth century. This grand Jacobean manor that we see today served as an opulent manor house before transitioning into the exquisite wedding venue it is now known for. The home was originally commissioned by George and Mary Crosier in 1690. They named it “Redworth Hall” after the hamlet “Redworth” which means “clearing which grows with reeds”. For over two centuries, the property remained in the Crosier family before it was sold to the Surtees family, notable bankers of Durham. Under their ownership, the property underwent substantial transformations, adding significant features such as the ornate marble fireplace that visitors still admire today.

It was not until the late twentieth century that Redworth Hall began its transition into a notable wedding venue. Purchased by the Cairn Hotel Group in the 1970s, it underwent a meticulous restoration, preserving the historical charm and elegance, while introducing modern comforts and amenities that make it a highly sought-after venue for weddings and celebrations. Today, the Hall provides an unmatched blend of history and opulence, making it a dream wedding location for many couples. Its beautiful gardens, ornate decorations, and dedicated services combine to orchestrate memorable weddings. Thus, Redworth Hall’s historic journey embodies its transformation from a lavish residence to a coveted destination for matrimonial celebrations.
